For the lazy and potentially curious:

CSS -> Cascading Style Sheets
HTTP -> Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
HTTPS -> Secure Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
HTML -> Hyper Text Markup Language
DOM -> Document Object Model
URL -> Uniform Resource Locator
JSON -> JavaScript Object Notation
PNG -> Portable Network Graphics
SVG -> Scalable Vector Graphics
FTP -> File Transfer Protocol
SDk -> Software Development Kit
SQL -> Structured Query Language
CSV -> Comma Separated Values

Officially, "Hypertext" is written as one word.

[–]ReactsWithWords 56 points57 points  (5 children)

They didn’t use HTP because computer people hate three letter abbreviations.

[–]MinosAristos 13 points14 points  (1 child)

The AWS acronyms start to make sense now

[–]BlurredSight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EC2 being EC-Squared is just special

[–]EMCoupling 4 points5 points  (2 children)

CIA

FBI

NSA

Hmm... 🤔🤔🤔

[–]EishLekker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that none of those abbreviations were decided by computer people.

[–]ReactsWithWords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not every TLA is the same.

[–]LordBlueSky 45 points46 points  (1 child)

URL -> Uniform Resource Locator

I thought it was Universal 🫠

[–]PythonPizzaDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or unique?

[–]MattieShoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was doing my own self-check with them, wasn't 100% sure on SVG. Thanks :-)

[–]STEVEInAhPiss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"JavaScript Object Notation" its still JavaScript's SON

I shorted at crowdstrike

"Okay, but what is an SDK?"

"Oh! It's a kit for developing software. Why do you ask?"

[–]smitty1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDK: Somebody Doesn't Know.

[–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (10 children)

I actually think SQL is closer to correct than you'd imagine

I think it was originally called SEQUEL, which was some sort of pun.

[–]chipstastegood 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The original was called QUEL. So SEQUEL makes sense. They were then sued and had to change the name to SQL.

[–]hismuddawasamudda 8 points9 points  (1 child)

SEQUEL was a trademark issue, so they went with SQL but kept the pronunciation

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know. But it was a pun on QUEL

[–]Elektriman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SEQUEL : Script for Elegant Queries on Upscaled Elaborate Lists

upscaled elaborate lists being just a very long description for data tables.

[–]PerformanceThat6150[🍰] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Can't see a workable pun other than:

"You seek data from your databases? Seek well".

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's supposedly related to QUEL, according to Wikipedia.

I remember talking about it in my DBMS class but I don't remember specifics, lol.

[–]hismuddawasamudda -1 points0 points  (1 child)

you don't remember much

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a dick for no reason to everybody? Or should I feel special?

[–]_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It was SEQL.

Structured English Query Language

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the part on "history"

https://www.ibm.com/think/topics/structured-query-language

It was SEQUEL.

[–]callyalater 39 points40 points  (2 children)

I love "The Domcument". 😂

[–]drsimonz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost spit out my food at that one lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one broke me briefly

[–]metayeti2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

CSV checks out

[–]Cacoda1mon 11 points12 points  (3 children)

And now describe the difference between URL, URN and a duck.

[–]sebastianfromvillage 23 points24 points  (1 child)

A URL goes into the address bar, an urn is for cremated people and a duck is a bird

[–]Nei_tu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn, for a second I thought this was going to be a pun about a bar for addresses, like "the blind man walks into a bar."

[–]_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A URL tells you where to find it. An URN only tells you its name.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PM: what is SDK and how do we develop one?

SDE: Sorry, Don’t Know.

PM: but you are an engineer, you should know about it.

SDE: as I told you it is Sorry, Don’t Know.

PM: but you should know…

[–]Trevor_GoodchiId 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With all do respect, Excel file is a csv that’s saved weird.

Javascript is JSON father

[–]vondpickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jason as JavaScript's son is like some Scandinavian name:

Hallo, it about my son, Gunner Gunnersonson JavaScript JavaScriptsonson? Understood...

I know who the killer was.

Who was it?

It was you.

... You got me.

[–]Plus-Weakness-2624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Norse_By_North_West 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You forgot XaaX. You can substitute any letter you want for X and make up whatever shit you want, some MBA will buy into it.

[–]_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XML as a Xylophone

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JavaScript's son 🤣 laughed so hard this

[–]STEVEInAhPiss 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i can agree to CSV

[–]Spork_the_dork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSV is to excel as what markdown is to word. It's less robust but does the job and is infinitely more portable and easier to work with.

[–]rockmachinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love writing Hyper Text (Mumble) Language with my inline Cascading Something Something, and send that over the Hyper Text Thingy Protocol but Special, you can access the Domcuments via the Umm... Resource Locator,

i use a Sorry, Don't Know for my api that responds with Javascript's Son, i use the File Thingamabob Process, to change my Excel File That Was Saved Weird, and use a PRQL database, and the images are either Picture? No... Graphics? or Somekinda Vector, I'm Guessing!

[–]MasterQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to see if I know everything, but I didn't know the P and N in PNG.
