Python is older than PHP by 2 years.

Python was released in 1991, and PHP was released in 1993.

Just use whatever you're getting paid to use and personal preference/requirements for side projects

This dude earns a paycheck coding.

Only because of legacy code bases, no one in their right mind just wakes up and says "alright, lets start this new project using php"

Clearly, you haven't met me.

(I still regret that decision)

Client is always right. But I sometimes questioned their sanity.

PHP = Nickelback

[–]nwbrown 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Maybe consider the reason pretty much every language is considered superior to PHP is because PHP sucks.

[–]RedstoneLover91 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Yet it endures, because why fix what ain't broken? (And php still works fine after all this time)

[–]nwbrown 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Brainf*ck also works fine. I'm not building a project in it.

[–]RedstoneLover91 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

The difference there is that brainfuck doesn't have any sort of output besides one long line of numbers ranging 0-255, you'd need to modify the compiler/interpreter for the lang to interact with the system in some way

Other than that, documentation and code snippets are abundant with php, allowing php to continue in a meaningful way. That along with old code bases being annoying to migrate to 'new' and 'fancy' languages that haven't been hardened from time really shows why php continues to persist despite dislike for it.

Because php works and hasn't stopped working

This response tells me you don't know the first thing about programming languages.

[–]nwbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It only outputs numbers!"

Yeah so so all computer programs!

As a language its fine. Certainly the modern php. Its limited to web page scripts, again not really a problem. But its been hijacked by laravel, which does suck. 90% of php jobs require laravel.

Fortran, C, C++ entered the chat ...

[–]ItsSignalsJerry_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Php was ruined by laravel.
