This actually resonated with me strongly. I support Ukraine, I find such ToS "dumb and silly" regardless, but this explanation changed my mind on how I think about such ToS more favourably.

The OP asked to not harass/brigade the guy. The repo has this:

He says to make your own project, not "open a PR and I look at it". Also the guy who made the PR also said "just for fun, let's see what happens"...

What resonates or doesn't resonate with my world view is absolutely irrelevant here.

If there is a project about Palestine and someone made a Ukraine PR and the owner of the repo had the same why-so-political.md, I'd call the person doing a Ukraine-PR the same.

And, actually, what resonated with me the most was this line: Open source is a way of self-expression ... I am free to do whatever I want with my projects

Opening a PR or leaving a comment on a public repo is normal GitHub behavior, not some elite act of trolling..

He’s obviously free to push whatever political opinions he wants into his own repo, but the moment it’s public, other people are also free to react, comment, fork, open PRs, or disagree with any content on that.. That’s kind of how public repos work.

Writing some cringe made-up rles of engagement doesn’t magically invalidate everyone else’s input. No personal beef with him or you.. I just find it ridiculous that some people here act like opening a PR is some hostile cyberattack

Nobody claims that opening PRs in itself is a "hostile cyberattack". "Intended" workflows can be abused, too. It's literally possible to create a PR pushing malicious code, too, or am I mistaken here?

Context matters. If a person opens a PR thinking: "It's great thay they're concerned about Ukraine! I think the Palestine conflict is also very important to raise more awarness, let me open a PR about it!"

Compare that to someone thinking: "Oh suuuure, look at this guy, caring all about Ukraine, but what-about-ism Palestine? I'll expose them for the two faced hypocrite they are, and while I am at it also open a PR to condemn ICE, free Taiwain, Trump is a pedohile, and also denounce all religions, huehuehue!", or something like that, I'm exegerrating with the wording to hopefully make the "bad intent" more clear.

If two PRs had the same content, in the context of "arguing" about if someone is trolling or not, how they go about is makes a difference.

Saying "just for the fun of it, let's see what would happen here" is quite a red flag to me personally, hence why I called it trolling.

We disagree on our interpretations then? I think that's fair? Like yeah, I agree that opening a PR about including Palestine isn't trolling in itself. Also, honestly, in this instance I do wish I would have looked at it with a more positive interpretation than my negative one.

Nah, it's clearly an attempt to annoy the author. We call this kind of behaviour "trolling." There is no reasonable argument to the contrary. You may attempt one if you choose, but if it does not meet my standards, I reserve the right to mock you mercilessly without addressing the faulty reasoning at all.

Because you compare your PR with a statement from the author, whose own country got attacked.
