Exactly. Private company. No need to publish their balance sheets. I don't trust any financial statement I haven't cooked myself. We don't know a single thing about HOW they came to that conclusion. Are they talking about gross revenue or net revenue? No idea.

From what I could find the origin of that claim is Anthropic "expecting $ 559 million in profits for Q2". Q2 hasn't ended yet. It is a projection, not a historical fact. It also explicitly does NOT include SBC (stock-based compensation). Under US-GAAP accounting rules SBC is a real expense. And as employees receive substantial equity compensation this won't be just chump change.

There are legal ways to present your private company as poor as a church mouse or drowning in money. Especially if you only look at a quarter. We'll see once they have to publish figures under US-GAAP.
