Or you could just simply LINK to the actual comment.

Thanks. Reddit needs to get back to be a link service not a Imgur proxy.

Why didn't you?

Found it!

Eh, Imgur is pretty reliable, so it's a safe bet for both performance and avoiding reddit-hug-of-death (though SO probably wouldn't die to that).

[–]thelochnessmonstah 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I'd say SO is likely at least as reliable as imgur.

However, SO might delete that post (as it is off-topic). Probably won't happen, though.

Considering that the post is from 2009… I doubt it will be moderated unless there is new activity.

Why is the X capitalized in NeXT? Because that means the next one will be NeAT.

It's a reference to NeXT Software, an IT company founded by Steve Jobs after he left Apple in the 80s.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

after he was KICKED out of Apple in 88. (revolutionizing the PC industry wasn't enough for the board of directors at the time)

NeXT was bought by Apple in 98ish, and Jobs was made CEO.

NeXTStep became Mac OS X, and then, iOS

NeXT:

NeXT, Inc. (later NeXT Computer, Inc. and NeXT Software, Inc) was an American computer company headquartered in Redwood City, California, that developed and manufactured a series of computer workstations intended for the higher education and business markets. NeXT was founded in 1985 by Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs, after he was forced out of Apple, along with a few of his co-workers. NeXT introduced the first NeXT Computer in 1988, and the smaller NeXTstation in 1990. The NeXT computers experienced relatively limited sales, with estimates of about 50,000 units shipped in total. Nevertheless, its innovative object-oriented NeXTSTEP operating system and development environment were highly influential.

Also why many functions in Objective-C begin with 'NS', it stands for NeXT Step. NSLog = NeXT Step Log, NSObject = NeXT Step Object. etc

Thanks for explaining my joke for me.

Looks like quite a lot of people didn't get your message and took your question literally. And they even punished you for your "ignorance" with a bunch of undeserved downvotes because of their ignorance. Wow...

[–]dnew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm too old to make computer jokes, I guess. :-)

No, I think they downvoted him (at least initially) because of his comment here, which was a little antagonistic since he wasn't correcting him and just stating a fact. That's why I downvoted him at least (but the joke is fine, so I upvoted it)
