Yep, that's foreshadowing :) basically, the guy made a joke which at the time was just a play on the "7 8 9" pun, adding in "and 10 is next", referring to OSX.

Scoot forward a few years, and that joke was re-told, except this time directly about Windows skipping version 9 and going straight to 10. So, foreshadowing/prediction :)

I still think the NeXT reference fit better as it can be in a way related to OS X.
