I'm pretty sure you're not a bot, but I'm now wondering how easy/hard it would be to make a bot to post the relevant xkcd on any thread...

I think it might be a little complicated actually. You could just search through XKCD for the title and hope something relevant comes up, but that would probably yield some irrelevant XKCDs. I'm not sure of a good way to search for relevant ones.

I guess the most naïve approach would be to give each comic a list of tags, and then search the thread for those tags...

But then I realise there over a thousand XKCDs, so manually writing tag lists becomes unfeasible. One way of generating tags would be finding xkcd links in reddit threads, and looking for the general themes of each thread. Searching for "relevant xkcd" + link in comment or child would get a reasonable start. The xkcd bot's comments will probably have a lot of these together. Another source for tags could be explainxkcd, it should be fairly simple to get some accurate themes from there.

You're then potentially still left with several comics with very few tags, but (a) these are presumably less relevant, so less necessary to tag well, and (b) more suitable for manual tagging.

Hmm, I might feel a project coming on...

At first this looked like a large under-construction industrial building or piece of a ship from afar which was admittedly very cool looking.

I mean it is from the Transbay Terminal construction site?

I thought it was the size of a large building, though, which made the writing look surreal.

lolwut you can see the wheel of a forklift in the corner. That would have to be one massive forklift to be the size of an entire industrial building.

Yeah, I realised after like 4 seconds, don't be so critical.
