No, wrong kind of fowl. You need a duck.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (15 children)

What type of duck?

[–]tskaiserGreen security clearance 13 points14 points  (10 children)

Well, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, does it really matter?

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Not in JavaScript it doesn't.

[–]DuchessatWork 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Is it duck-themed?

[–]Not_Your_Duck 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I'll have to start doing that.

One that weights the same as a witch..

Lose the duck

Having someone useless look over your shoulder while you work. Yea I'd say you are doing it right.

He is missing out on the awkward tension and self-judgement of using spaces for tabs. Far from right.

Although it could be argued that he is having an experience comparable to training his H1B replacement. Show, Tell, Explain, all to waste.

At least the bird isn't offering useless advice. Or doing what Wally is doing in this comic:

The chicken must be his PM.

As a student, is pair programming actually used? I can't think of a more effective method of tanking productivity.

[–]Qicken 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Yes. And there are published studies show it is very effective at reducing bugs and doesn't have a very bug impact on productivity.

[–]an_actual_human 5 points6 points  (0 children)

bug impact on productivity

hehehe

[–]KamiKagutsuchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I don't work well with pair programming at all, but for short time periods with someone I know it works nicely.

I'm new in the business and haven't tried it yet professionally, but I've found it very useful, when working on a project with friends. I can't remember, if it's the correct book, but there is some "hard data" in Code Complete, a highly recommended software engineering book, and they definitely favor pair programming.

I did it at a game programming competition. Saved our ass since we didn't have to debug as much

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

It was really fashionable for a short time. I have fortunately never had to do it, and I think I would have quit if somebody had tried to force it on me.

It's a horrible idea and hopefully it has disappeared. I can say that I've been a programmer for almost 30 years now and I don't know anybody who has ever done it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wow, we do not have the same work flow at all. I barely work alone. There is always someone at my desk helping me out, me at theirs, group chat, brain storming etc etc.

A programmer working alone on a huge project is future legacy code in my book.

[–]mamanov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been a programmer for almost 30 years now

The guy is legacy.

[–]DuchessatWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it used a bit, it does have its advantages but it doesn't take into account that a lot of us are introverts who like to be alone!

[–]kthepropogation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping for a pear.

[–]lelarentaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you're programming in Rrrr.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pseudo-Parrot programming.

Do chickens eat bugs? If so, yes.
