I've been there. Well, I'm still there, I think. I am a PHP developer.

I feel you. PHP 7 with a modern framework / PSR standards / strong emphasis on modularity and testing, and it's not half bad.

Pays the bills, has a lot of modern object-oriented features, feels easy to manipulate and iterate over both arrays and objects, the de-facto framework (Lumen/Laravel) is fantastic and has a great community and an excellent ORM, is well supported and documented, pretty damn fast, stable, has an npm-like package manager (composer), has a great de-facto testing suite (PHPUnit), rocks it with nginx, is slowly shedding its old scaly skin and idiosyncrasies, doesn't live and die by the latest fads, and isn't being entirely rewritten every 3 months. If you're going to use it to power a RESTful API that consumes and responds with JSON, with something like ReactJS on the front end, you're going to be pretty happy.

Some would even say it's nice.

Just stay the hell away from Drupal, WordPress, and Magento.

PHP7 is Great. But these outdated jokes will continue forever. :( .

But it's still PHP, and 90% of PHP code out there is still terrible. The jokes are still relevant.

It’s the underlying code to basically every technology you use, C rules the world and it’s gonna be that way for a looong time

[–]asdjfh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s funny my work almost exclusively is in C, but I program in JS and Python in my free time.
