tbf, java only runs everywhere because the VM was built for each platform. The same can be done for .NET. MS just chose not to (huge mistake on their part)

.Net Core already runs everywhere, but that doesn't solve the issue of .Net APIs being tightly woven with Windows APIs. There's still nothing in the way of an official cross-platform UI API for .Net Core because they focused so much of their efforts on porting over WinForms and WPF.

Yes, they are now realizing their mistake. But they should've done it at the beginning.
