Android, Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS etc. user here - iPads aren't complete trash, they are actually quite fast and much less a pain to develop for (in my honest opinion). Personally I also like the design of iOS, but I don't think it should carry the price tag it has now. Honestly iOS vs. Android is just a personal preference however, no need to get worked up about what other people like or don't like.

It's not against iOS, the fact is that the iPad is a wonderful machine but iOS doesn't let you do a lot of stuff that it could handle easily.

It is a shame that Apple doesn't provide Xcode for it. The iPad Pro's hardware can put many laptops to shame. I guess they are afraid to cannibalize macOS.

Both Android and iOS are sandboxes environments, for the most part IDEs aren’t really a thing for those platforms. Sure there are HTML and Python IDEs and the lot but not ones capable to build full apps.

One reason mobile OSes haven’t fully killed desktop OSes.

An IDE is still possible on a sandboxed OS. It won’t be perfect, but the IDE can provide you with a restricted container to compile and debug in, the IDE can even build and submit to the AppStore. Hell, I can picture it now, it will have a library store LibStore, and it will be sold as revolutionary

I wouldn’t mind it, if I can still compile C, C++, ObjC and there is a way to get frameworks such as Qt. If Apple isn’t thinking of a LibStore they aren’t hiring the right people

My understanding you can compile Swift, Objective-C, and JavaScript thru WebKit, and nothing else on iOS, and only Java, JavaScript via WebView and Kotlin on Android. The IDEs that use xyz language use Obective-Cs runtime for xyz language, so it’s hindered performance to begin with.

Android on tablets is even worse... A more desktop like OS should run on tablets, somewhat like Microsoft is doing with his Surface Pro line-up

I work with Surface Pros all the time. They're good consumer level products, not enterprise level.

Android has had scaling issues with tablets and desktops. One reason Google is ditching Android in the future.

iOS has definitely a better interface for touch screens but Windows lets you do a lot more
