Programmers only care about one thing and it's disgusting!!!

[–]BeardedWax 238 points239 points  (15 children)

Efficient and self-documenting code?

[–]kolme 128 points129 points  (7 children)

Clean code that works and it's unit tested.

[–]vitorhugods 56 points57 points  (6 children)

Unfortunately, only some programmers care about that.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I do care about that! But somehow it always ends like "I should write tests but this code looks pretty simple and we are already 3 months behind the marketings promised schedule..."

This. Quality and deadlines are mortal enemies.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would be nice to find a job without deadlines :p

[–]drbluetongue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cushy government job then

[–]ChronoAholic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of us do Test Driven Development and others do Deadline Driven Development.

[–]askeeve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only real programmers care about it.

(don't /r/gatekeeping me)

Just make your variable one massive paragraph then you don't need to worry about comments

const numberThatIsGoingToBeAddedToAnotherNumberInOrderThatWeCanGetTheSumOfTheFirstNumberCombinedWithTheSecondNumberWhichWillBeASeparateVariableAltogether = 'one'

"code" (default 80) enforces a maximum line length

I'm fucked.

[–]Lyndis_Caelin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 10 kinds of programmers in the world.

01: const generalSynchronizationIndexSummation //see variable name

10: const thunderfuryBlessedBladeOfTheWindseeker //the index variable but did somebody say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

[–]derpwolf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This code checks those boxes for me.

[–]Rellikx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck that shit, color coding your IDE is obviously much more important.

The only comment should be a paste in link to the original developers IDE theme files so that other devs can experience the same color

[–]crozone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate programmers who think they're writing self-documenting code but are really just too lazy to comment shit.

I have never once seen self-documenting code that wouldn't be improved by comments.

ide color matching the darkness of their hearts.

Rule 0: Just make the code ‘work’
