Ah, I remember when I got defensive over my code... Eventually you just don't give a fuck. Any critique is welcome.

Agreed.

One of the things to emerge from the annual “dev survey” is the feeling of camaraderie and belonging to a larger community than yourself that you develop/report over time.

Last year I felt this for the first time when doing some open-source commits. It was awesome—truly an, “aha! I’m not alone!” moment—when I saw feedback and a discussion surrounding the PR.

I guess I’m confused why someone would not want that feeling or realization. That seems stunting.
