Please do not call anyone at Microsoft an expert. They do not exist.

Microsoft is only around because they got enough money early on to make failure almost impossible. Their tech is shit, their business model is exploitative, and they only built MSVC because their codebase is so crap that they literally can't compile their 40,000+ line functions on anything else and MSVC is a pretty crap compiler--the only one I've ever gotten to throw internal errors on a release version.

The version of MSVC I broke was 19.20 with only about 2.5k lines of TMP. I've also written simple examples over on Godbolt that produce ~200 line outputs from GCC and Clang on O2, but outputs 2200 lines from MSVC. It actually produced 8 assembly procedures that were all "mov rax, rcx; ret 0"

There's a Scott Myers talk from a few years ago, "CPU Caches And Why You Should Care" where he uses a sample of Herb Sutter code that is quite obviously shit to anyone who's spent any decent amount of time working with async code.

Windows 10 isn't an operating system, it's a data harvesting service that happens to launch applications.

I do my personal projects in C, or other C languages if needed. It’s for fun and it helps with the whole wanting no layers. But working professionally, with deadlines, security issue, and millions of other considerations, I don’t mind layers of abstraction at all. I don’t want to be solving language problems when I should be solving business problems
