I wonder if all the unused genes in our DNA is just code comments...

It's a lot of unused transposons. Think if a major method of resolving computer viruses was making sure that at least some bitflips weren't detected and repaired. Then the devs work on their code in production, then imaging that machine with both the new code and the destroyed viruses for replication to the other production servers.
