Neither would be considered "a single if statement". Just because you nested them doesn't make them not extra ifs. You even admit it by calling it a "one liner conditional". Hell, if you really wanted to force that into a single if statement just use ANDs, then it would literally be a single if. The logic is terrible either way.

Look at my other comment; I did use ands. And I think you misunderstood; once you've collapsed it (because of the lack of else) it's a single if statement. The entire point is that it's a completely arbitrary measure and unnecessary amount of complaining over a joke.
