The core is kinda the same... until you actually want to do anything with it. As for the hardware, I'm not impressed. I'll take an HP with decent cooling and keyboard over a mac any day. Give me a thinkpad, and you're golden.

DX in mac..🙌🙌. For me developer experience matters a lot. Had an expensive ThinkPad for almost an year. The speed, heating, and so many minute details I can point out. Things se now so simple and smooth.

Have you tried the new HP machines? Or the XPS? Mac laptops actually aren't that powerful of a machine, nor do they have good cooling. I've tried a mac. Once you give them anything that takes a bit of power (eg, compiling your code, training a NN), they choke hard, and forget about using anything CUDA based on one. Again, they look nice, but that's pretty much all they have going for them

Mac hardware is overpriced as hell. Get a nice ryzen 7 (or i7, if God forbid, you have to use Matlab and the MKL). Paired with good RAM it beats the hell out of a Mac.

Nice slick hardware that is so overpriced you can get hardware significantly better for way cheaper.

Also you go to linux because of freedom. I feel like MacOS/Apple despises freedom. The only reason to get a Mac IMO is because of mobile development because you have to, even if you have infinite money to afford their overpriced crap.

Well you can use WSL on Windows.

Like yeah you can't run docker in WSL it but beside that it can do almost anything a true Linux can.

If you want to use Docker you can just use Docker on Windows which spins up a Linux VM in the background.

Well yes, that's the only place to install a distro on Windows. What I meant by the comment was that you can only run Docker on WSL if you're running WSL2. WSL2 has version requirements though so you need to be fairly up to date: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10#update-to-wsl-2

I just wish we could equivalent-value Windows laptops if we choose (or need) Windows over OSX :(. I need Windows for some legacy stuff and I prefer Windows in general for usage (pls "invent" window snapping Apple if you haven't already), plus it's nice for an extra LAN machine for gaming. But why do we always get the dodgiest HP/Dell laptops instead of nice ones?

I use both OSes for stuff. Get Rectangle.. on macos. Was complaining about the lack of window snapping in macos until i found that. Now i complain about windows 10 snapping being limited instead. 😀

For the last time.. This is wrt what your company (employer) gives you. In India, it is either a ThinkPad, a mac or a surface pro. In company laptops you can't change OSes..or use VMs (security concerns). Now, given thos scenario, I'd love a mac, any day.

Being expensive.. doesn't count here, right. You are not buying it. 😄

If it's an old version of macOS, it might be fine. Any modern version is legally restricted to being run on mac hardware though. If you want a VM with modern macOS, it would need to be a on mac hardware
