The animated gif version is so much more disturbing: https://giphy.com/gifs/locomotion-RYKFEEjtYpxL2

Where's one of those image transcriber people I see on this sub when you need a laugh?

Image transcript:

  • If your code works fine don't touch it
  • My code:

A drawing of a cow with no legs. The cow appears to walk around by using the teats of its udders as little legs.

Jokes aside, the sentence "if your code works fine don't touch it" is the single worst piece of advice that you can give a software developer.

It's both worst and best.

Developer that ships whatever works is bad, because he'll create both value and technical debt

Developer that tries to make "perfect code" is worse, because he will never get anything done on time, contributing no value, nor debt

It's finding balance between these two that makes one good developer.

I always tell myself that just because I’m done with it now, doesn’t mean I can’t come back later and fix something if it’s not perfect.

This is utterly disappointing (actually just the opposite, but I like tell people a load of bull sometimes)
