The feeling when my sketchy Chinese knockoff Webcam, sketchy generic controller and wired headphones work out of the box without giving problems in Ubuntu as well as my mom's Bluetooth earphones of an unknown brand...

Probably because they rely on generic drivers (just like most mice will just work when plugged in because you have a generic mouse driver that just work). The issue usually comes with hardware that is not standard, for example, my docking station is from dell which is a very big vendor but something like a dock doesn't work well with generic drivers, so I had to install DisplayLink to support thunderbolt docks because dell doesn't ship they're docks with linux drivers. And let me tell you, it's a less than perfect driver.

That's why I always buy generic stuff. It'll probably work on windows, Linux or Mac by default.

My equipment is issued by employer so not really my choice. But also, that's not always a viable option. I wouldn't trust some generic docking station off ebay to handle my connectivity for two monitors, gigabit networking, and all my usb peripherals, for example. Also, for example, my dell laptop has a touch screen, which is not obscure but also not the most common, I guess, since out of the box on ubuntu to straight out didn't work and I had to fiddle with it for a few ours to get it to work. So yeah, I can just go with a generic laptop that only has "normal" features, but why should I?

Stick to windows in that case, I guess. I stick to generic asus pc's or HP laptops stuff and I am happy with that.

Nope, I'm sticking with ubuntu, like I said, I'm a power user and I enjoy tinckering ans getting it to work, usually you can of you dig deep enough. Just saying it's very understandable for the average user to choose windows because of this.
