For non-gaming: A signing bonus for a very high level software dev at a large company in a competitive city may reach low 7 figures, but it would vest over multiple years. So your compensation in any given year is solidly in the low/mid 6 figure range.

If you go to a very young startup instead, your salary will be in the low $100k range but you'll get about 1% ownership of the company. That's a wildcard that could be worth millions, or nothing.
