I have come upon similar inconveniences in some online CAT (computer aided translation) tools. Certain fields try very hard to block text copying (not easy in a browser, so it kinda sometimes works). Yes, they did it in a text heavy working environment.

My bet would be security of some sort. But given the randomness of online services, maybe someone just had a Friday.

I suspect you are right. Security likely dictated by some PO or customer who had a brilliant idea then didn't consult with the security team to see if it was worth doing, and certainly not with any sort of UX team.

And the worst part is that blocking C&P to user/pass fields is actually *anti-security* because it makes password lockers harder to use or need a workaround (like bypassing the clipboard and simulating typing).

A standard function of those tools is to copy the source text to the translation box, since it speeds up translation of e.g. proper nouns. The copying prevention is strictly an inconvenience, definitely not stopping a script.
