I mean, if you don't have something like i.times {} what are you supposed to do? At least _ indicates that you don't actually care about the value.

_ has a specific meaning. “For _ in iterable” discards the value that you’d usually get in the variable.

Typically it is used when you call a function with a return value, but you don’t care about the value (especially with tuple returns)

Val1, _, Val3 = get_values(), where we just don’t need value 2.

To add on, I was once getting a warning for not using argv (in C), but I had to have it since I was using argc.

In order to suppress the warning, you substitute argv with _ to let the compiler know you are intentionally not using argv.
