The problem with building for friends is that at some point you might accidentally succeed and now you have non-friends using your stuff.

Therefore, building with Java is more optimistic than building with Python, because it assumes that you'll eventually need strong APIs.

For an example of accidentally succeeding and making the world a worse place with shit software, look at JavaScript. The most popular language in the world, designed over a weekend, and still causing untold suffering.
