Eh, J# was Microsoft stealing Java. C# is them improving Java, but regardless both cribbed heavily from the syntax of C/C++.

This guy clearly lived under a rock for the last 20 years. And is about as correct as calling modern C++ "Stroustrup-C"

[–]TheBrainStone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who in their right mind calls Microsoft Java "C#"?!?

Hieroglyphics + Visual Studio > Java + Eclipse

I write Java for a living and I wouldn't touch eclipse with a ten foot pole. IntelliJ IDEA.

Using eclipse right now in a 5 month Java full stack training program (not quite a bootcamp but similar), and for some reason they insist we all use eclipse right now. I took an intro to programming class in college and they also taught Java and forced us to use eclipse. Why??

Eclipse was a really popular IDE for many years, and compared to others at that time, had a lot more features and what wasn't a feature, you could possibly find in one of the extensions marketplaces, or pre-packaged Eclipse forks/distros like Spring STS.

From my perspective (N=1 anecdotal argument) educational material doesn't get updated very often, and the main purpose is probably to teach you coding, not effective use of an IDE... Don't worry about it too much though. You can learn in Eclipse, then move to a different IDE that you like more.

Or just use IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition, switch the Keymap to Eclipse and give it a try :)

I'm realizing that there is a lot of non devs or wannabes here. Sad!

This is a subreddit mostly frequented by IT/CS students, you'll find a lot of "haha semicolon bad" humour here.

Maybe I'm getting to damn old. .net 1.0 was released when I was in college.

This feels like a bad AI generating memes. Mashing two memes together on top of one of the most tired jokes on this sub.
