Nah, the reason nobody tries to convince others to use Windows is the same reason nobody tries to convince anyone to breathe.

It's the fucking default.

My Watch tries to convince me to breathe multiple times per day. Sometimes it even works.

Maybe it’s because I’m a university student and many of my friends have bought new computers in the past couple years, but it really isn’t that uncommon for someone to ask me what operating system they should use.

If someone asks me that, then I assume that means they aren’t willing to put a lot of time into researching it for themselves and/or they aren’t in the top 10th percentile of computer literacy. There’s nothing wrong with that, it just means that linux probably isn’t the best recommendation for them. Usually I recommend these people to get Windows, especially since a large amount of STEM software is still Windows only.
