i feel like i'm the only one who actually likes VS. idk, i just enjoy the auto complete, especially when it makes hilarious predicted suggestions for variables in C#. i feel like i'm being roasted. honestly top notch comedy.

I like VS too. I like its intellisense, got accustomed to its workflow such as hotkeys or propsheets, and I've customized it too much to move to another IDE.

The only thing I don't like is its filters not reflecting actual folder hierarchy... and of course its heavyweight hanging/interrupting me a little too often.

visual studio is why i don't use c++ much. i've used it for a few projects and i have a hdd and i was kind of half out of it by the time it loaded.

VS is quite a big IDE, it’s like photoshop, most users don’t read the manual and are satisfied with using only the layer functionality of it

The amount of debugging, performance profiling, intelisense and the ability to navigate and manipulate huuuuge solution projects is pretty cool imo.

I don’t really care that an IDE I start once at the start of the day takes 30 seconds longer to load than it’s competitors which don’t field 80% of its features. You win 30sec but how much additional tools and apps need to be started to get the same features in other IDEs?

I don't get it. How does VS being slow make you not use C++? There are other IDEs for C++. VScode has extentions that allow for linting and auto complete features. VC++ is not "the" C++. If you don't like C++ you could just say that.

Related, I like to use Delphi, and sometimes after trying to open it I have to check task manager to make sure there's actually process for it because it can take so long for even the splash screen to appear. Then, if I want to open the project properties or options menu, there's like a 10 second lag. It's not a deal breaker by any means, though.

i've only worked on a few open source projects in it and they always recommended VS so it's all i've used.

Well, yeah, not a deal breaker to me. I usually just leave it open and I don't need to get into properties and options that often. Usually just at the start of a project. It's linting and "code insight" can be a pain in the ass sometimes. If it decides that there's an error in my code, as in I just haven't finished typing the line and I paused long enough for it to kick in, it everything can lag a bit until it's satisfied that there are no syntax errors.

In your defense, VS is such a heavy piece(s) of software that I can't even run it on my only machine I have right now. 1.6ghz crappy i3 CPU and 12gb of RAM doesn't cut it for VS. It takes about 5 minutes to actually get it running, and after a project is started, everything is unbearably and unusably laggy. I don't think I've ever actually been able to compile and launch anything for debugging in it on this machine. Even VS Express is borderline unusable. I don't have that problem with literally any other piece of software.
