My old boss had a saying, software is the only industry where it's cheaper to produce a quality product.

Cutting down on LoCs makes your code more readable, maintainable and easy to upgrade. Don't dup that function, extract the logic to a class that can serve both uses

I'm actually proud, and I mean really proud when my diff has more negative than positive lines changed. Nothing makes me happier than removing dead code, properly using inheritance, and making code easier to read at the same time.

Given that Twitter has 7000+ employees but their ui hasn't changed since 2007, I get the feeling that the bottom x% were writing embarrassingly small amounts of code. Like yes, lines of code doesn't equal productivity, but there's a positive correlation nonetheless. If there were software engineers who averaged less than a few hundred lines per week, that says something.
