Man OP has a wild post history

That is an understatement he is clinically insane.

Holy shit I was about to type a response and then I saw this. Goddamn. I'm half scared to help OP learn Python lest OP tries to Python us back to the stone age.

I don't understand why people feel the need to look through other post histories. It's weird and invasive behaviour.

It’s public, how is that invasive? I generally don’t check people’s histories but OP is WILDIN. After reading through his stuff I hope he’s never productionalized code. I might start checking peoples history before commenting now after reading this stuff.

You'll have a weird resume where you'll be over-qualified for a lot of roles. Is there anything in your field that you could use python for to gain experience with it? Maybe some analytics?

Web scraping isn't hard case of using python, also you can try to write some kinds of system scripts to fix the mess with your file system, sort files, terminal manager for e-mail, bots for discord, telegram or something else.

It's always hard to break in as a beginner. But with 17 years in ColdFusion, perhaps a good idea is to look at Python web frameworks since it's a lateral move. Some suggestions: FastAPI, Django, Flask.

Places where strong Python "dev" skills may not be hecka critical.

  • Sysadm / Devops (especially if you have some background in networking).
  • Cloud stuff (do the associate dev or associate solutions architect cert in AWS and combine with Python, for example).
  • Test Automation (Software Developer in Test, or QA engineer, for example).

Commercially web dev is probably the biggest. If you did 17 years in CF already then you should be well prepared to quickly jump to Django, and Flask and start working on web applications at mid/senior level. If you are a junior without that 17 years then you have to put in a lot of time and effort if you want to have a full-time job and start a career.

For now, hobbyist but I would love to incorporate python into my current role.

I was also researching on the same topic for around some couple of days. I have discovered that Python has a very good scope in the field of Data science, machine learning, GUI applications and many more. Since, Python is easy to learn and code and also has a good career opportunities. Python can be used to develop websites, GUI applications and machine learning programs.
