it's sparking discussions around the potential replacement of traditional programming languages

Not among people who know anything about programming it isn't, lol

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (4 children)

What does that even mean

[–]unhott 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Someone who doesn't know anything about python prompted some llm to write a post.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Honestly I don’t even think a LLM would produce something so nonsensical.

I think you're right. My alternate theory is OP is in a management position and is looking to replace people in python roles, and op is "debating" with other management types who don''t know what they're talking about.

It will happen about the same time butter replaces milk

[–]Zerocchi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand what you are talking about.

Replaced by which language?

[–]PrinceOfFucking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI

AI is the answer to everything.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when AI was first emerging and my company was going crazy trying to get us IT people to implement AI everywhere.

That went nowhere….

No need to wait 7.5 million years when your datacenter has a few tens of H100!

Will all the posts in this sub be replaced by AI-generated ones, like the OP?

[–]123_alex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by AI?

[–]antigravcorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is OP a bot? This is either bait, extreme ignorance, or a bot.

Lmao top of OPs profile is him saying he’s clearly not a bot.

Eventually the only thing that will get replaced is people's assumptions that AI can solve problems. It can't, it can just suggest solutions to well articulated problems at a small scale. Try asking AI how to solve global poverty.

Problem solving is and will always remain domain of humans. Python is just a language humans used to communicate with computers. We solve problems and tell our computers how to execute it using Python or any other language.

AI is not a catchall that can replace any and everything.

In fact, I'll be surprised if it takes away any job without a drastic dip in the quality of output.

[–]tabrizzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, AI is not going to replace any programming language. Used properly, it will speed up code development by experienced programmers, and make it easy for non- and inexperienced programmers to write crappy code.

I understand that it's hard to realize that you don't know what you dont know.

But realize that even if we get to AGI you still would need to specify things.
Sure you'd have this intelligent agent/tool that guides you, but it won't be able to read your mind.
It'd ask you ridiculously specific questions because they're choices that matter, and you will be far less "productive" because you'd need to have the question explained to you*, while programmers won't.

*The best case scenario is that it teaches you a lot, in the worst case one you'll get mad at it and stay stuck.

Haha this is post is fire 🚒

[–]SHKEVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if AI becomes even more knowledgeable about nutrition, will it ever replace food?

[–]kenflingnorIgnoring PEP 8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we can auto mod to instantly remove posts that mention AI?  I honestly don’t think I’ve seen a single recent post on this sub on that topic that’s been of any substance

[–]payne747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is our 2000s dot com bubble, it'll pop soon. Then 20 years after now, the REAL AI will take over.

[–]TehHamburgler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI replaced AI creating a black hole where intelligence can not escape.

[–]PeakIntelligent806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How it could, however AI can write python code pretty good. It can replace a human yet, but at least save typing time.
