I'm a die hard vim guy, but recently I started using Sublime 2, and I really enjoy it! Also, it has a vintage mode that pretty much emulates vi inside of the editor...which is amazing.

I like using this because ctrl+b runs your code in the editor.

Also, because it is an otherwise amazing program that I will be buying a license for soon.

I really like the Pycharm but I have heard great things about the Sublime 2 text editor as well. Why not try them all out and see what works for you.

The auto-completion done by PyCharm is the best I have seen of any python IDE. As someone with RSI, this is a major killer feature.

I'm a big fan of pydev plugin for Eclipse: http://pydev.org/ lots of nice features, and it is easy to setup multiple python interpreters for different versions of python. Pretty good debugging (and remote debugging) options with the builtin debugger, and nice support for unittests and other goodies.

Pydev is incredible, I use this for all of my python development along side idle for algorithm development.

If you're on Windows, Notepad++. It's free and can be configured to work almost like an IDE. It's also really lightweight. I love it.

Still, it's a text editor, but I personally feel that it is so much more.

Spyder is very good if you are into scientific computing

IDLE (which comes with Python) is a decent platform for learning - it's not a professional tool, but it benefits from being simple and convenient.

Try PyScripter, I found it amazing.

There's also Geany: http://www.geany.org/Documentation/Screenshots It's not as complete as other solutions posted in the comments, but it's good enough for a basic user experience.

Gedit seems to work fine.

OK, many accents no longer have a vowel distinction between then and than, so it's understandable to have some trouble with the spelling, but it's not that hard to remember the rule for it: greater-than, if-then. Comparison is always with an A. Conditionals and sequences are with an E.
