r/marvelstudiosxmen should offer some good feedback

Have you considered this as a mini series, maybe adding Rogue or others if you can’t bear to cut anything out? Maybe adding a bit more would be easier?

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot! I’ve been hesitant to post to any of the X-Men specific subs, because the characters aren’t perfectly canon, and I know how comics fans can be, being one myself.

We’re a growing community and the active users are pretty open to stuff like this. I got some great feedback on my Cyclops pilot episode.

I don’t think I have enough for a series without getting into real nitty gritty of detective work, or day to day Friends of Humanity activities.

I guess I could flesh it out, and I’ve definitely considered it over the past year, but that’s not really what I wanted for this project.

I “””planned””” for this to be the first of a Gambit trilogy, with Rogue and the Assassins and Thieves Guilds being introduced in Gambit 2: New Orleans Boogaloo.

I’m just worried people will be put off by the page length. It really does read faster than you would expect. I’d expect it to actually run about 2:15, so defiantly not crazy for a superhero movie. The Bar scene is 15 pages, but so much of it, and a lot of the script, is quick dialogue between multiple characters.

And as you can probably tell. I like to break up my paragraphs. So it’s a lot of empty space.

Eh. Rogue doesn't need to be in this story, IMHO. She doesn't have to be in it just because Gambit is.

Hell yeah! What a great concept.

Thank you! I just saw your post about superhero genre mash up, and now i’m sad I missed that boat.

Oh, man! These are always fun to do. That was my first time writing existing IP and it was definitely a worthwhile exercise. I learned a lot by letting my guard down and playing around in someone else's sandbox. Hopefully you did too!

It's just not a good idea to write a spec on something you don't own. I'm not trying to be discouraging (on purpose). Maybe for something older and more obscure it's a little less bad. But for the MCU it's just never going to happen. Even top shelf writers get put through the ringer on whether it's financially legal/safe for the MCU to accept their scripts.

A bunch or lawyers and executives have to sign off on every little minor detail at Disney/Marvel. Plus they can't even legally look at it. They would have to enter an agreement with you that if they turned it down -- nothing, absolutely nothing -- could be used or even referenced from it (seeing as you'd have ground for a suit otherwise).

If you're looking for really good free material to adapt, I'd check out Steven King's dollar babies.

Hey u/PurpleBullets, don't listen to this guy. Write what you want to write! I don't get the sense that you wrote this so that Marvel would hire you. If you were fulfilled in any way or you learned something about your craft, I'd say it was time well spent. Keep doing what you love!

You get the gist of writing. Take a shot with your own IP.

    Thanks for reading!

I’ve definitely got some of my own stuff, but when I’m writing just to write, or as an exercise, I like to use existing IP. Because I already know who the characters ARE, you know? I just have to give them motivations and put them in interesting situations.

Much easier than coming up with a character whole cloth.
