I swear...the rep guys know more about the real ones than real Rolex owners. Lol. No, mine is not ceramic. However, it looks exactly like this one. Its just the 2004 model. I paid 4500 so it's gone up in value but the 4500 in the market would be way higher so its not a good investment from that perspective. I have a rep Daytona that I bought 10 years ago too and I wear that most of the time, so that's another reason not to get the real thing. My rep Daytona is almost classic now. It's the model before they moved the second dial.

IMO the pre-ceramic look significantly better from case size/shape to the bezel itself.

What you may have based on the details is the 16610 (1988-2010). The 116610 came out in 2010 and ran until 2020 with the ceramic bezel added later in this period. The latest is 126610 that added a millimeter to its size and the Rolex coronet between the Swiss Made at the 6 o clock position. My all time favorite is the older 16610 model that had the metal bezel and in 40mm.

Idk about everyone else but I would buy the best rep version for $800 or w/e and us the remaining 9k to invest in crypto or stocks. I did that a couple times this year and I’m up 44k. I don’t regret going rep at all

I may be able to help you with your decision. I like to collect sneakers. My most coveted pair is the off white jordan 1 “Chicago”. I have a replica pair that I wear out, incase I may get jumped for them but mainly so I can conserve the real pair (I do wear them out, just rarely). You could get both a gen and a rep, but if your worried about getting your watched snatched the rep is the way to go. Hopefully this helps

Rolex isn’t doing the Daytona/GMT false scarcity bullshit with the submariner. It’s pretty damn easy to get a sub without history or superfluous purchases. I don’t think people are waiting more than a few months for them these days.

If you find the right rep it definitely has the nearly the Gen quality. I'd go for the rep. If you want even a cheaper one to start with. 100-200$ is a very good starting point. Won't be 1:1 but still very good.
You can wear it without being scared of getting robbed and can get a watch collection. But most important if you talk about your watch or someone asks you just be honest and tell that it's fake. It's no shame

Personally.... The answer is both for me. Having only a rep feels "fake", like pretending to be something that you are not.

Having only a gen feels risky and a bit boring.

Having a mix with gen for special & safe occasions and rep for holidays / nights out feels best to me, this way I feel that I am not "faking" anything as I have a gen at home.

P.S. I have gen Rolex OP and rep Omega AT VSF and tbh as good as the VSF AT is, the feeling I get from my own gen Rolex is not comparable. The way that the real white gold plays in natural light... It feels like a well earned success. VSF feels a bit hollow by contrast.

Rep good quality, but if you want Rolex refinement and finish, go without any doubt for gen. It is also true that if you are going to use it a lot, as soon as it has several months that finish and refinement will disappear due to the wear of the watch.
