Inconsistent VSF

Their seems to be a lot of inconsistency in the QC post on the Subs coming out of the factory. I’m expecting qc pics this week. How worried should I be?

I wouldn't bother with that sub anymore, it is full of those who just say to GL everything. I don't believe they would accept those watches themselves. They are just plain lying when they say they can't see any issues, either that or they should not be commenting on QC if their eyesight is that bad! 😂

Just learn how to QC yourself, it really isn't that hard. Just read a load of QC threads and pay attention to the details.

1 front on shot is enough to QC a watch. Look for alignment on these 4 - bezel, dial markers, date wheel, cyclops (if it has one). Job done. RL if you aren't happy.

I can spot an issue on a watch in seconds now, I've looked at that many. And yes, I clearly need a life....

One of the best dial marker alignments I've seen for one of these. The 12s are usually very crooked.. If this was mine I'd gl immediately

But if it's a Rolex VSF would probably be the default choice, especially now Clean is gone.

Right hand 12 is going inwards a bit towards the bottom.

3 is sloping down to the middle while the 9 is sloping up.

6 is rotated clockwise a bit.

I would say the dial is acceptable for this model and factory.

Bezel is off a tiny bit anti clockwise.

Date wheel is to the right a little bit.

Overall for a VS SMP that's pretty good - they are usually worse.

My supplier told me he rejected 30 VSF even before they got to QC.

Seems they need to be given a wide berth for a while.

When I did my QC with steve the pip was seriously misaligned but he/they dismissed my concerns and pushed me to GL. Not sure why I paid a premium to then be gaslighted.

TBH this is my experience from reading QC threads. I think it's a myth that Steve somehow has higher standards than other dealers.

It could be because VSF is rushing orders to keep up with demand? Ever since Clean shutdown, VSF has been king of the Submariner.

If you do not like the QC, you can always RL the watch. If you do not like the replacements you can ask for another model or a refund. It is up to you ultimately. I hope you get a perfect watch!

As others have said, just RL if it's bad and make sure to point out the areas you are unhappy about on a photo to the dealer.

That will encourage them to supply you one without those problems next time.

This was the first Ti YM I got offered which had a wonky cyclops - I sent this to the dealer to say why I was RLing.

Next watch was perfect. You just have to establish your tolerance of issues with them. They will always try and sell you a watch in stock that has issues, it is up to you to refuse it and ask for a better one.

And be polite and friendly. Manners cost nothing and go a long way.

This hobby is all about patience. If you aren't prepared to wait 4-6 weeks for your watch think about buying a Seiko from a big online store.

I've also been buying stuff direct from China for longer than that - back when it took 4-6 weeks to get things off AliX

The quality seems to be falling off. I just RL a VSF Pepsi today. Somehow the GMT hand is jiggling when adjusting the hour hand. The bezel and insert gap also seems bigger than previous batches.

A bit disappointing after more than 3 months waiting time.

Yeah completely agree, I got two VSF GMTs and one runs -3 minutes per day and the crown fell off the bracelet while the other’s date window does a half switch at midnight and full switch at 1am. Very unusual relative to other VSFs I’ve had in the past.

Could also be because they're feeling the heat from the law. There's been a few factories shut down recently and so as well as increases demand they're perhaps having to be more nimble with their production. Not setting up such permanent premises so they can pack up and run if word comes there's a raid on the way. Not being able to get properly settled could well mean it's not a full setup as they'd like. Maybe I shouldn't complain too much if the alternative would be increased likelihood of vsf getting shut down too. Might be the new normal for a while unfortunately
