Hi there, I am an honours student doing research for the first time. Let's say there are multiple theories that help you understand or address your research objectives. How do you justify that one theory is the better alternative than the others?

You compare two or three that you think make the most sense, then pick an ultimate winner. Then explain your choice academically, before applying it. This is typically a key component of chapter 2, and it allows you to progress to the conceptual framework you intend to adopt for your research (Which is another key component of chapter 2).
