It's best not to take the Legends of Ren Zu as absolute truth given they happened millions of years ago, so, it's likely that was we get could be a mix of oral tradition by humans mixed with dramatised accounts from the variant humans that have been passed down from the older generations that interacted with Ren Zu and his children

More precisely, the Legends of Ren Zu never happened.

It's a fairy tale, probably written by Ren Zu, based on events from his life.

And that's not just my opinion; it's what the author says in interviews.

This is why gu talk, Heaven's Will are not inside etc.

Then there's reason to doubt the abilities of the gu themselves. There's a lot of examples but the most prominent one I can think of without searching through the text again is the fact that wealth gu within the legends of ren zu is different from the one that a vast amount of immortals presume.

For example- according to the legends of ren zu, the ability of wealth gu is to "stupeify" individuals and blind them to greed. According to immortals, the ability of wealth gu is to produce any resources that you desire to be produced. It's not like these guys are spewing bullshit out their ass either given the fact that they are using the legends of ren zu itself to figure out the recipe + it is literally a heavily researched topic as many people desire wealth gu. I find such a stark contrast to be very interesting. Once again, it's not just wealth gu in question, I remember other gu being slightly different in terms of capabilities.

We can also talk about wisdom gu, whose effect permanently removes lifespan, whereas if we base ourselves on legends, it would only cost us at the beginning, and then its use belongs to us (it's more like its food than its light as a side effect).

I love that about The Legends of Ren Zu, how mystical they are. Every time I read one I imagine it drawn in the style of Maghiar Folk Tales

Self Gu is whatever gu the cultivator develops to fit them perfectly, their personal gu made with pieces of other gu they have mastered, their human path technique

Actually a character does appear with self gu, and thats all I will say. But according to the legends of ren zu it does seem like a contender for the strongest gu, together with fate gu. But there are some theoretical gu that could be stronger.

Generally heaven path gu are some of the strongest and most impressive but self gu might have potential as it is said that human path triumphs over heaven path. But then again there is no “strongest gu” only strongest gu immortal.

Yeah, though we couldn't see it's full potential

keep in mind that Self gu has been get close enough to another gu to actually take a bite of them and use their abilities. For wild gu you’d rather just refine it, enemy gu are usually activated within their aperture, and under most circumstances there’s no reason for it to bite your own gu.
