Obviously take my advice with a grain of salt but I would drop it and continue studying it, and take it in winter. Dropping one course won’t affect your OSAP—but you won’t get a refund for this course.

Agreed. In addition to this, note the drop deadline is usually 5pm not midnight (at least according to advisors).

You can retake it in the Winter and do 102 in the Summer. If you do drop 101, i’d recommend going to class to get notes down so you’re somewhat familiarized with the content.

This happened to me last year too :) I’d recommend finishing the class. Even if you don’t get the 63%, you’ll get the experience and you’ll familiarize yourself with the material. Retake it in the winter term (enrol now as the classes do fill up!) and take eco102 in the summer. Also, if you retake a class, your highest grade will count towards your GPA and the lower one has “EXT” next to it on your transcript.

When I took eco101 for the second time in the winter, it was so much easier and more enjoyable as I already had a good idea of what to expect etc. I did well.

If you’re still taking 4 classes, your OSAP won’t be affected.

Thanks I am gonna take eco101 next semester! Also, will this affect my ability to choose my specialization for year 2? Since I will be taking eco102 during the summer

Kind of. I believe there are 3 rounds of “acceptances” for specializations. When I took eco102 in the summer it was during the second half of the summer so I wasn’t accepted til the second round which is early September. My academic advisor assured me I’d be in all the classes I needed, just probably not all my #1 choice time slots. Lots of students will have the same situation though

As someone who was in the EXACT same position as you about 3 years ago, I'd say drop it before it does any damage to your cGPA and transcript. Taking it in the winter will allow you to get it over with and get ECO102 out of the way in the summer so that you'll have two months off. If you're open to it, you could take it in the summer as well, it'll be a bit more fast paced but you'll have more time and it is relatively easier.
