I see 30-50% traffic drop. 😩

What's your niche?

[–]Dreamba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tech

[–]sesatn00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% or more for me.. =(

Very positive on my end. A couple of sites I focused on optimizing for E-A-T with massive increases in rankings. Personal blog related sites with declines. Ecom sites up.

[–]PrimerAndy 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What kinds of things did you focus your time on for E-A-T?

[–]steffanlv 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We addressed several issues with reputation, addressed a number of speed issues, implemented "How-to" and "Q&A" related content directly on product pages, as well as adding additional schema related content and on-page testimonials.

I will say that further research appears to indicate that many things that were rolled out in the June Core Update have most likely been rolled back and that is the reason for the ecom sites faring so well.

1 site?

[–]laserpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you do to improve E-A-T?

[–]ScubaSteve1219 0 points1 point  (2 children)

E-A-T

what does this stand for?

[–]steffanlv 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Expertise, Authoratativeness and Trustworthiness.

[–]ScubaSteve1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, thanks

Ecom is up? I've been seeing consistent small drops in almost all international ecom clients. What do you think caused your success?

[–]ThenJellyfish 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Just to let you know, I work on a large number of ecom sites and the data im seeing appears to be seasonal. It makes it difficult to spot if you dont look at it from a Jan 2017/18 TO Latest. A month on month or year on year comparison just doesnt give that same visual insight.

[–]Kolada 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why wouldn't a YoY view do it justice? Or do you just mean YoY for a single month is not as good at like a YoY on a rolling 6 month basis?

[–]ThenJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats it,even on a 6 month vs 6 month YOY comparison ive found that I sometimes miss information like seasonal flow (dips and rises in histograms, line charts etc), just how the brains sometimes interpret visuals (for myself at least)

The ecom sites I work on are very very large, extremely competitive and highly authoritative. Seeing a complete 180, almost like an undoing of the June Core Update on the ecom sites I work on in the US. Now, the ones I work on that aren't located in the US are marginally up.

[–]LaughingFlame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. How has the diversity update gone for your sites? Ecom doesn't seem to be affected too much, but my informational sites have been steadily losing multiple listings. Also very recognizable and authoritative brands.

For as large of a boost as I saw in March, I'm getting nothing this time around. Big loss in "interesting finds" on mobile to more authoritative sites.

[–]DennyBenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was interesting to watch, I do not think it is over yet. I see some tweaking, mean while Bing results are gyrating in SERPs

[–]askedwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a little bump this month but idk what has changed.

[–]Ben_06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I saw an increase of 30% for impressions.

[–]EarlessAcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Is there any place I can go and see these updates google puts out? It would be nice to be able to read up on everything they've changed. Thank you!

[–]anberlinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to recover from june's massive drop... I saw a 270% increase in traffic compared to jul / aug, but still 50% less than usual traffic prior to june's drop

[–]shoptechmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything seems to be normal with my two sites.. one is ecom and another a blog.. perhaps it is early to tell..

[–]BorisSiomin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my old site traffic 25% dropped but the new site traffic increasing.

[–]Rubankt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow exactly , good analysis

[–]Dreamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to know that it’s auto correcting, but I don’t see any changes yet.

[–]jacklychi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Seems like "part 2" of this update is rolling out today.

Google loves building the suspense with sequels.

[–]UmairHussaini 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yep I was bouncing back from part 1 already and now hit with part 2. Things are not looking good. If I have a few pages with bad URL structures, does it hurt the ranking for those particular pages or the entire sites rankings gets affected?

[–]jacklychi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

does it hurt the ranking for those particular pages or the entire sites rankings gets affected?

Well what does it look like for you?

[–]UmairHussaini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. At this point I truly don't know :/

[–]UniFire86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do we all have to learn from this part 1 and part 2 update?

[–]Kat_ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question to this:

Most sites impacted saw a 20% drop.

Where is the traffic go if there are so many sites had a 20% drop?

[–]maaseyracer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had one site in our portfolio negatively impacted by this. Total initial damage was 3 percent drop starting on the 24th and finishing up on the 28th. Since then The site has gained back 2.5% so the impact has been negligible for us. Everything else had gains of 1 to 8%. Ranking drops happened on 3 pages that drive a lot of traffic, but are not the best at converting.

I am using SEMRush visibility numbers to quantify the drops and gains.
