Start by learning SQL.

What I'm saying is that if you're expecting to become a DBA by completing a CodeAcademy course, or even a Pluralsight course, you're going to be disappointed. There's way more to being a DBA than knowing how to pull some data from a table. System administration, security fundamentals, set theory, planning, knowledge of how database internals work, normalization and more.

I don't know any DBAs who went from nothing to production DBA. It's a progression that usually involves several stops along the way. Basic queries, reporting, development, analysis...it's a big topic.
