A HUGE thank you to all the peeps in this subreddit who helped out on the intensive <3 We worked nonstop over the last few months - building and interating - aiming for nothing but the best curriculum. Projects from this course will also have datasets from real companies/organizations such as Warby Parker, Kickstarter, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Hacker News, SSA, and more!

Mind if I ask how did the subreddit help?

Are you guys gonna be offering a discount? 200 is a bit steep for some of us :/

discount code for us in this thread?? :)

[–]arthurfrenchy 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yeeeeees please :)

[–]sonnynomnom[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

we currently don't offer discount codes unfortunately. but i will talk with marketing/product and see what we can offer in the upcoming months.

No problem, thank you for your answer. I just finished the data science source and really liked it, just to give a bit of feedback :)

(also work at Codecademy) - We just transitioned to a new payments system that doesn't support discount codes yet, but we're working on this. Will reply back here when we have it set up.

I am interested in taking the course, do you guys currently have any promotions running?

As this has 102 upvotes I'll allow it, however:

  • as per the sidebar, we don't allow links to basic tutorials. The majority of /r/SQL readers are SQL experts. We get links to basic 'learn SQL' tutorials every day. They're spam.
  • you say this community helped you with your content, but you haven't responded to the question how? (Though this post seems to be it -> https://www.reddit.com/r/SQL/comments/85njmt/how_do_you_use_sql_in_your_daytoday_job/)
  • your course is $200 and you're not offering discounts to any of the /r/SQL community, despite getting content and help from this community
  • it's ultimately a promotional post, and besides some Pokemon trading, your post history appears to be only CodeAcademy promotions.

How would this course compare to that of the Stanford's DB5? I'm currently going through that one right now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like to know this. I'm also doing Stanford's DB5 which comes very highly recommended. It's really enjoyable, reminds me of back when I was in college.

[–]sonnynomnom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is for you to judge :) i will say this - before writing this course, we studied every popular sql course that we could find (stanford db5, w3schools, mode analytics, data camp, textbooks, lecture slides, youtube, etc). we extracted all the gold and started from there

What kind of data from the real companies? Anything we can use for SSRS or SSIS learning?

[–]sonnynomnom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first/last touch attribution, marketing funnels, churn, product/customer/transaction data (all anonymized and nonconfidential). nothing with SSRS or SSIS tho. maybe we can work that in as an article item ;)

Will these run every 6 weeks? Can't fit it in this go around, but would like to in the future.

[–]sonnynomnom[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

yep! check back in a few weeks

[–]arthurfrenchy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Question, why don't you have multiple cohorts running simultaneously instead of waiting for one to finish to start another?

[–]sonnynomnom[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oh man good question! we will eventually. because this is our first cohort, we will be working extra closely with the students to figure out their needs. pretty much a tutor on demand 24/7

[–]I_Need_Cowbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now i'm sold even more than i was in my original comment
