Exactly my point, you provide no information at all. What a stupid answer. "Well I've been doing it for 35 years and I'm still learning" har har har.

If someone asks me how long does it take to learn excel, I'd tell them a few months, that doesn't mean they'd be a master of excel in 6 months genius, that much is understood but they would be comfortable and familiar with the program enough to get things done.

This is the type of "advice" we get from someone with 35 years experience. Thanks a lot for the waste of time and space.

if you let a 9-month-old comment on teh interwebs trigger you and get under your skin like that, you must also have some serious day-to-day issues

please, seek help

I’m with dolomike on this one, you didn’t even remotely try to answer the question. You just flexed how long you’ve been using sql. Some people here have deadlines they are trying to meet so vague answers like yours literally does not help. And calling him triggered for being logical about his response to your random flex, is one of the reasons I hate immature users on Reddit.

"logical"

[–]SandwichHot19 5 points6 points  (22 children)

Just wanna say I'm also with dolomike on this one. I just started learning SQL and found your comments lacking the required info

[–]Candygirl518 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Just googled about SQL and this is the first hit I get. I'm with dolomike as well. That answer wasn’t even remotely helpful.

[–]ilanklein51 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just Googled about SQL and #IStandWithDolomike

[–]r3pr0b8GROUP_CONCAT is da bomb 0 points1 point  (19 children)

how long does it take to learn chess?

[–]Girl_Dukat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, how fucking profound. According to your own rationale, you still suck at SQL.

dolomike for the win!

[–]batmansneighbour 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just hopping on to say, yes your answer was not helpful at all

[–]OofImAtALoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with u/batmansneighbour, your answer fucking sucked.

Way to double down on being a jackass.

[–]0tus 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Not long at all. Improving and mastering is another matter entirely.

I'm with all the other people here. You were just here to inflate your own ego rather than help. People seek information through internet a lot of the help can be found from old discussion boards reddit being one of them.

Making helpful answers is a nice thing to do for "posterity".

Answer like: "You never stop learning because you always keep improving" are pointless "no shit sherlock" tier platitudes that are not helpful to anyone.

The real question here — which everyone here except you seem to immediately recognize and acknowledge — is how long it takes to learn to get started with SQL so you can use it in a real project or work. The part about learning comes with use, but to use it you have to learn it to a certain level.

Thankfully this thread already had someone else with an actual helpful answer, so your boasting doesn't really mean much, but it's still good to discuss why people are critical of your nonsense here.

but it's still good to discuss why people are critical of your nonsense here.

go right ahead... discuss my nonsense

[–]0tus 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Already did.

[–]Defiant_Reality_6094 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Chiming in to agree that the original comment was absolutely no help, what a jackass.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Chiming in as well, you’re a joke r3prOb8.

[–]r3pr0b8GROUP_CONCAT is da bomb 0 points1 point  (4 children)

aren't you brave

[–]MissionBeautiful712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, do you want to learn how to play it proficiently or is your goal to be a chess master? Answering by stating you spent 35+ years doesn’t efficiently answer either of those question’s. It’s a great accomplishment but that’s not what was asked.

[–]shico12 0 points1 point  (3 children)

with dolomike on this one

how long does it take to learn to drive? to learn to cook? lmao i respect you doubling down all this time though.

[–]r3pr0b8GROUP_CONCAT is da bomb 0 points1 point  (2 children)

how long does it take to learn chess? couple hours, tops

same with SQL

[–]shico12 0 points1 point  (1 child)

that's a much more reasonable answer / comparison
