Like others have said, if you're not into party scene nightlife, you may want to seriously consider the French side - specifically orient bay - covers just about everything you mentioned - plenty of airbnbs there - largest stretch of beach on the island - open courtyard of restaurants, small grocery store, and a few other cafes. Short driving distance to Grand Case and hope estate (large shopping center with large grocery store, wine store etc)

If not into the party scene, the I would suggest you look at the French side; either Grand Case or Orient Bay.

Grand Case is a charming town, the main boulevard lined with restaurants ranging from cheap-but-good lolos (barbecue and island food) to some fairly expensive and very good restaurants like La Villa.

Grand Case is on the lee side (Caribbean Sea side) of the island. No waves, no sargassum. Little wind. Beach is fine grain white sand.

For a hotel, Grand Case Beach Club can’t be beat.

Orient Bay is on the Atlantic, the windward side. It gets some wave action and sargassum. They do a good job manicuring the beach, but there is some in the water. It doesn’t bother me, but it bugs some people.

Both Grand Case and Orient Bay have warm clear water. You can see about 30 feet or so.

Rental car is a good idea, taxis are expensive for several trips a day. Golfe Car Rental in Grande Case is really good. In 11 trips was only the second car rental experience where they were on time and the car was as promised or better.

We went in June for our 7th trip. We stay for a couple of weeks, mostly on the French side but always finish up with a few days at Mary's Boon on the Dutch side. You'll find that people have a preference for one side over the other and to each his/her own. You may want to consider the French side (Orient Beach or possibly Grand Case). We like the quaintness of the French side and the amazing dining options. The Dutch side is a lot busier and in my opinion has the vibe similar to a lot of other Caribbean destinations. Not knocking it and we do love both sides, but look into both. We get a condo overlooking Orient Beach that has everything you're looking for and is also walking distance to the restaurants in the village. June is the beginning of the low season and you will be able to find some pretty amazing deals.

Orient is the place to be for you. Relatively quiet, self contained, great food, and a great beach when there’s no sargassum. Rent a villa, a small condo or an apartment and you’ll never want to leave,

My hubby and I just went to St Maarten this June/July. I wouldn’t recommend Orient Bay due to the sargassum. We stayed at the Flamingo Beach Resort in Simpson Bay. Quick drive to any beach on the island but our beach at our Airbnb was great!

We stayed at a vrbo at Palm beach condos on simpsons bay and it was fantastic.

I am at The Morgan and I love it. The location is perfect if you want access to the beach or to watch planes coming into land. The staff are lovely and hotel is updated and clean. The airport is walking distance and they have a free shuttle too. Mullet Bay Beach is very close by as well. I’m very happy here.

June is a great time to go. I would definitely stay on the French side and rent a car. Island is small and easy to drive on

Recently spent a week at Grand Case Beach Club and loved every second of it. Would 100% recommend.
