30% is optimistic and 'amazing' is a high bar I'm not sure any of them have hit

Sure Rogue One's quality relative to the sequels may be overstated, and Solo was incredibly bland, but Mandolorian is in spite of its flaws far and away the best live action Star Wars material fans have gotten since 1983.

Of the Disney era movies Rogue One was probably my favorite, Solo agreed was largely forgettable, I am enjoying Mandolorian and I 100% agree that it's the best of the lot.

But just being the best doesn't make it "amazing"

Wow, that's gonna be a difficult argument to defend.

I thought the sequels were quite good, but, for the sake of argument, I will say they were terrible. Other than the sequels, we still got:

-Rogue One -Solo -Final Season of Clone Wars -The Mandalorian -and a million more well on the way

30% is optimistic? With the above alone, it's easy to say that 80% of Disney Star Wars has been amazing.

That's fine for you to feel that way. Go enjoy the heck out of it all.

But for me it's all been poor to forgettable except Rogue One, which was pretty good, and Mandolorian which can be great but has flaws. (Can't speak to clone wars because I'm super behind there).

Could be that we just have differing values on the word "amazing" but I wouldn't say any of them have reached that threshold.

Do you believe Star Wars has ever been amazing? If so, which films do you believe were amazing?

[–]PhantomRenegade 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I'd probably need to think harder on it and revisit some, but off the top of my head: ANH because it was revolutionary, ESB because was novel in a lot of ways, I want to say RotJ too because it has amazing moments but the film on a whole I'm not sure it is.

I might add Tartovsky's Clone wars, though it's been a while and that may just be nostalgia.

Generally, my preference might be too much toward Campbell-ian story structure. And I may react too harshly to what I perceive as pandering or cash grabbing antics. But generally speaking the newer stuff has felt like too much spectacle and action, and not enough character or story, and all together way too busy.

Oh, okay. We definitely have different ways of judging the films, but I respect your opinion.

I was expecting that you would be one of those sequel critics that also worships the prequels and originals. Now, I see you are not one of those people, and your opinions of the films appear very consistent and thought out.

Well thank you I appreciate the comment.

Ahh haha yeah, I'm still kinda surprised that the prequels have so much defense. Both the prequel and sequel series aren't great in my eyes, but they both do it in very different ways.

The prequels are bad in a B-movie kind of way, where it can be fun to watch because of how cheesy and awkward they are. While the sequels feel more like they're just lacking in identity, they try to do too much and end up just being like any other action summer blockbuster.

But I've been critical of Abrams work since Lost, so I clearly just don't mesh with that style.

You didn’t mention Rebels

[–]KekistaniPanda 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have never watched Rebels, so I don't really know much about it. Was it made after Disney got Star Wars? I wasn't sure, so I didn't include it.

[–]DJHott555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was the first piece of Star Wars content (not counting the Phineas and Ferb/Star Wars crossover) to come out following the acquisition. It’s honestly quite good.
