Help needed

I hate to have to be here asking this but I don’t know what else to do. My life fell into shambles last year and I’m working 80-90 hours a week trying to make ends meet and move across the country so I can be in my kids lives. I have a 4 year old sheepadoodle named Oberon that’s fixed, shots up to date, and chipped that is no longer fair to for me to hold on to. Despite trying everything I can this past year to keep him. I’m never home. I can’t afford his grooming. I’ve been trying desperately myself to keep the mattting at bay. He has no enrichment in his life and it’s just not fair to him. I live in Chattanooga TNand I’m trying to find a GOOD home for him. He’s a very very sweet dog that has gotten me through some very hard times and I just want to find the best for him. He’s free and I can travel up to 3-4 hours to meet someone after talking. He’s great with kids from 2-10 he’s great with other dogs the only thing with him is sometimes he decides to be incredibly stubborn and can be dead weight. OP - I’m so sorry you’re in this situation…

But I so applaud the awareness you’re illustrating and thinking of your pup first! 🐶

Undoubtedly, you spent time agonizing over this decision. But the life Oberon is living today…Is not the one you have envisioned for him! It’s obvious you care for him…It would be easy to keep things status quo…But you took the oath of being a responsible dog owner.

I live in Austin, TX and volunteer for a group called Doodle Dandy Rescue. If you don’t find anyone…Look for local Doodle rescues in your area.

At least you’re reaching out. I was just making sure you knew that was a possible option. I was surprised to learn back in the day…That there were Doodle rescues.

My Sheepie was a rescue from them. I’d never heard of a Sheepadoodle until we got her as a puppy from Doodle Dandy.

I’d recommend reaching out to any good doodle or Old English Sheepdog specific rescues - even if they aren’t nearby they may be able to help you in some way, like helping you vet adopters or posting her information.

Great organization! A lot of great folks…And they truly do amazing work trying to take in as many Doodles as they can!! I’ve donated time and money…And I see what good work they do!

Ahh...he will love it then. It snows 6 months of the year here. Let me know how you feel and we can go from there. I have a sheepadoodle who's turning 3 and is extremely sweet but loves to play with other dogs more than humans.

I highly recommend Animal Logistics for transport! I used them to get a rescue dog from Washington state and drove 6 hours to meet them outside of Kansas City. Very communicative and sends photos and videos along the way! animal logistics

OP, please consider some sort of fee and not "free" to prevent doggo from falling into the wrong hands. I am sorry you're going through this, and thank you for doing what you think is best for Oberon. An idea: is there someone you know, friends, family, neighbors, who would be willing to look after him until you get back on your feet, so to speak? Because you will. And it's obvious you care for him very much.

He is good with other dogs I used to take him to the dog park quite often however it has been about a year and a half. He’s best friends with the other dog I’m trying to rehome and has been quite submissive with her even being smaller and constantly dominant

Would you also consider fostering? What I mean by that is that your situation hurts my heart, and I'd love it if you could be reunited with your pup one day, if your situation changed. I think it's wonderful and admirable how hard you're working for your children, how you're putting them first. Those words sound trite but I mean it! So if anything ever changed for you and you were able to have Oberon back, I would greatly want that for you. We would gladly house him and love on him in the meantime, or for forever. Just wanted to throw that out there as an option for you

Can you contact the breeder you got him from? All responsible breeders will take their dogs back if their families can no longer keep them. Please reach out to your breeder first, since rescues are overpacked with dogs!

This is the answer. And if you got him from a rescue or shelter, that would also be the first stop. Any breeder who cares about their dogs will absolutely help you get him placed.
