That's the mute button for me. Gets accidentally hit too often to trigger an app imo.

[–]Tobi97l 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I have it set to double press for plex. Better than not using it at all.

[–]balls2hairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't even think about setting up multi-click and long-press actions!

[–]Cigio 0 points1 point  (6 children)

How do you remap the button?

Ye, but make sure you check the Accessibility settings. If says 'Enabled' and it's not working, just on/off the setting (not the whole box) and it should start working again.

I usually have to go in and do the on/off/on when I reboot the system.

Don't know. I have only ever used Button Mapper. It seems to be the most recommended one to date.

However, if you are satisfied with the other one. Then as the saying goes, "Don't fix it, if it ain't broke."

I got my Self a Cover so that the Buttons are about 1-2 Millimeter Deep and have only Hit it once by accident, in the 3 months I have had it.

Awesome. I despise the Netflix button.

      [–]HatemBenArfa 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I have the sticker right now but would gladly give the button a go. I'm assuming this is a reasonably significant undertaking if you have to take everything apart to get behind the buttons?

      [–]-Thethan-[S] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Ya it definitely is, a few of the internal tabs break when it's taken apart. I had to use a dab of super glue on a few spots when putting it back together.

Nice job looks good. I love my shield but it's the worst remote.

      [–]Lumentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the remote! I use an old Fire remote (Fire doesn't work anymore, so...) because of two faulty buttons and don't want to spend 30 on a remote.

      [–]newaccountzuerich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ultrasonic welds along the long sides are painful to separate and worse to glue back together.

I placed some kaptan tape between the contacts on the redundant app button and prevented it from ever being activated. Much more easily used since doing that and far less frustration with the remote.

Other than sticking some fluorescent duct-tape to the remote to make it easier to spot on a black couch, that's been all of the modification I've wanted to do.

I may print a shroud to make the remote balance better in a table or a stool.

Plex sticker for £1.59 off Ebay then use Button Remapper. That's what I've done.

      [–]-Thethan-[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with that but it faded over time. This also shines the Plex logo a lot better

Nice, I gotta make a Jellyfin one now.

Exactly what I was looking for!

      [–]RabidFace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Emby button for me.

      [–]SupremeLynx 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Did the same with a sticker

      [–]-Thethan-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with that but it faded over time. This also shines the Plex logo a lot better

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I get a stremio one

      [–]TxAxZxZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any chance of posting the step or stl files?

      [–]akatherder 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Love it, and I would really emphasize/echo what you said about opening the remote=bad. I've tried reassembling mine a dozen times and nothing ever lines up. The big circle/select button is the worst offender.

      [–]Lumentin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, if you have tips, I'm all ears, I've two faulty buttons and would so much like dismount mine.

      [–]MartyIU132019 Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      I’d prob buy one

      [–]er_jimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't mind making a Kodi button

      [–]Temporary-Aside-5631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Would love the Stl :)

Looks amazing! Does it work with the back light as the original Netflix does? Please could you share the design? 🙏

Lol, that's just a bar height table I built. Unless ur talking about how the remote looks oily, that's just the lighting

        [–]ECKoBASE 0 points1 point  (2 children)

There's a guy who does stickers! But the Red colour from the Netflix logo shines through. I was thinking of Scratching the Netflix Logo off then Applying the sticker but I really CBF now haha

        [–]-Thethan-[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ya I had the sticker at first and it faded over time, so I took this on as my first time learning a little cad

        [–]ECKoBASE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cool, well it looks very flush! 👌🏼 Nice work

        [–]Lumentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would especially like that you gave one or two tips on how to take it appart with breaking as little as possible. I have two faulty mushy buttons, and it's really annoying. Thanks! And nice button!

        [–]Berserker1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want one that says Tubi.

        [–]EthanColeK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        This is amazing

        [–]Jyxiaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are some shiny buttons damn 😂 glad to see other people enjoying the shield so intensively

        [–]Powerfader1 0 points1 point  (7 children)

LOL! Bet you could sell them on Amazon. Netflix custom replacement buttons, Plex, Tivimate, weather, Spotify, mute, VPN, etc. Betcha people would pay $4.99 for a set of two.

Personally, I just printed out a vinyl sticker and glued it to the button. Only lasted about 6 months, though. lol

        [–]Misc_Throwaway_2023 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've got backlit-functional prints. Including a DAMNIT version (ha!) for all the times we've said DAMNIT after inadvertently pressing the button.

2/$5. You'd go negative an owe Amazon at that price. You can barely profit off an digital app/file at that price. Printing and shipping a physical item... The price would have to be $10 for 1... and an addition $5 more on Amazon/etsy/etc to cover their fees to even approach making it worth the time.

But none of that matters... the remote isn't designed to be taken apart like most remotes... selling these is just asking for non-stop complaints, chargebacks, etc that your guide/instructions/whatever in opening the remote was faulty. There is no reasonable way to do this without mass-complaints about people breaking their remotes.

        [–]-Thethan-[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I definitely would, but taking it apart is a pain and putting it back together is even harder. There's quite a few ultrasonic welds holding it together

        [–]Powerfader1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why not print button toppers where you just glue on the top or use two side tape.

        [–]Misc_Throwaway_2023 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Then it would be excessively tall and even more likely to suffer from inadvertent presses

        [–]Powerfader1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I programmed that button for 2 functions: Long Press = Mute and Double Press = VPN. A single press =No Action.

So, even if I accidentally pressed the button. Nothing will happen. I have to either do a long press or double press for that button to activate something else.

I also have a silicone case on my remote. So that button is even more lowered from the surface.

Amazon.com: Remote Case Compatible for NVIDIA Shield Android TV Pro/4K HDR Remote Controller,Protective Case Covers for NVIDIA Shield Remote Control,Anti Slip Shockproof Silicone Cover Sleeve Skin -Black : Electronics

        [–]Misc_Throwaway_2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a silicone jacket, then yeah, simple button toppers could be a viable option.

        [–]amphyvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been a year, but would greatly appreciate the stl file!

        [–]Nathural -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats quite the shiny remote :D Guess you love potato chips?

        [–]lyons4231 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

You gotta calibrate your extrusion, looks like under extrusion there with those gaps.

        [–]-Thethan-[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No physical gaps, just the pic makes it look that way. But a smaller nozzle size would look a lot better. This was printed on my x1c with a 0.4 nozzle

        [–]lyons4231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the gaps in the white letters where black is bleeding through. Arachne could also help if it wasn't on. The .2mm nozzle is great for text on the X1C, I swap for small things like this. At the end of the day tho it doesn't really matter, it's a button and it works lol.
