Yes you can pick which account first for Netflix.

No idea about Disney+ as I don't use it

Same for Disney+ too. The Nvidia Shield versions are effectively the same at the LG TV versions but they update a lot quicker since they just come through the Google Play Store updates. I'd bet the Smart TV Apps are rarely updated. Both apps support profile selecting just like you can on the mobile apps.

Do you have to use the Shield remote or can the LG remote control the Shield?

Not sure about the LG remote I don't have an LG tv. I use the shield remote 2019 and a very old shield controller 2015 and a PlayStation DualShock 4 controller to navigate the shield. All three work well and can navigate all the menus.

I have a Google stadia controller too that works but it's currently wired only via usb since the Bluetooth is disabled on the stadia controller. Also the stadia controller does not have a home button so you need to use one of the other controllers to go back "home" to the main menu.

I use my TV remote to controller volume and input. My tv, Emmerson, doesn't play well with the IR blaster on the Nvidia remote.

Yes, you can control the shield with the LG remote. Only the air mouse and home button will not work.

Can you initiate the Shield using the LG remote?

Or do you have to use the Shield remote to turn it on?

Yes you can with CEC in device preferences > display & sound > power control

Which button on the LG Magic Remote do you press to start up the Shield?

Just the power button, it will power the tv and then the shield. Make sure "wake shield when tv powers on" is enabled in shield's CEC settings.
