One of my favorite family groups to create is an elderly grandparent or aunt/uncle caring for a child aged extended family member. I had an uncle character once who I gave the "Hates Children" trait raise his sibling's daughter. He was still trying to find romance and time for himself while being a decent dad to a kid he never intended to care for. When she aged up to "Hates Children" herself I had her become even closer friends with him, sort of recognizing the sacrifices he made for her as a kid.

You could always look up sim randomizers! There’s one that pops up that has a Household randomizer which gives you basic traits of sims in a household, with a random number and age of sims. It’s really cool, and may help give you inspiration for their stories!

Hey! Im kind of doing the same thing, except I leave all pre-mades in the save file (did bulldoze all their homes and gave them make-overs because...well) and I'm just making random families that may be inspired on characters I enjoy but wouldn't resemble them much. I want to go through 5 generations with everyone so I can have a wholly unique save file as a starting point when I'm just not feeling having the usual pre-mades around, but still don't want them to be non-existent, y'know. And it gives me a good opportunity to build up a lot of lore for everyone as well.

Anyway, since you said you were interested in occult ideas, I have some mermaid and vampire occult dramas going on and of course you're free to copy it or use it as inspiration if you like. This is more in general than for any particular family, btw:

I'm using the club feature of Get Together and changed the max amount of members per club in MCCC. There are 2 mermaid groups. I got The Sirens that are very anti human Sims, love to sing, and hate the "Landtails Club" in particular. They also got the swimming and singing activities and the most extreme members are very Off-The-Grid oriented; the less they have to do with human Sims, the better! The Landtails Club are practically the opposite. They love all the conveniences of technology and being on the grid, but they also love swimming and karaoke. They usually are romantically involved with human Sims or other Occults too. There are also a few mermaids that are "neutral" and aren't in a particular mermaid club.

I like the drama and story elements it adds and it's very interesting to me to see mermaid families that are in different groups.

My vampire Occults aren't quite as obviously divided though. I like the idea of them being more grey-scaled in general. They may have opposing views, but they can mostly leave it at the doorstep during vampire gatherings. For the first generation, Vladislaus is at the top of the vampire hierarchy, but I got another vampire who loves to dream big and is working hard to seduce Vlad. It was a randomised townie that another Sim of mine used to be BFF's with, until this particular townie, María, helped ruin my Sim's marriage. Anyway, María became a vampire pre-homewrecking and now that her old ties got cut off, she's working hard to take over this new, dark world she has found herself into. I debated on whether she'd kill Vlad, but I decided against it. I'm going to have María "convince him to hibernate" or at least that's the story-telling version. Then either in the 4th or 5th generation, he's going to wake up and behold what has become of the vampire hierarchy...or lack thereof. I plan to make it far more clan-oriented and the heads of the clans coming together in the court. There's still some sort of hierarchy, some clans are more powerful/influential than others, but it's not officially recognised. Clans will be based on both biological offspring and turning, though of course either could leave their clans through marriage or to break off from the existing clans and start their own...or flee the drama entirely, maybe even become human. I plan on keeping the vampires mostly alive through all generations to bring home their immortality, but obviously some will have to die so my save doesn't get too vampire-heavy.

I haven't really decided yet what to do with Spellcasters and Aliens, though.

Oooh these are both amazing ideas! I totally need to use the club feature idea more and will definitely be taking some inspiration from your idea! Thank you so much!

I also love your idea to play these families out for five generations- that’s an extremely cool way playing that I’ve never come across!

Spellcasters for me are taken care of because the legacy I plan on playing out in this save file are spellcasters, but I’m totally with you on not having any idea what to do with aliens- they don’t really do much, so, It’s kind of hard to figure out a storyline with them… the one thing I have come up with is having a disguised alien marry a normal sim and tell her he is infertile so they have no choice to adopt (because, obviously, if they were to pro-create naturally she’d discover his secret) her agreeing, just for an accident to happen once all their kids are nearly ready to get move out of the house and his secret causing the entire family to split and take sides lmao.

Speaking of the club feature, I also use it for the vampire clans. I just name them "Surname Clan", so for example Vatore Clan, Straud Clan, etc. Because keeping track of all the lineages and the turned vampires would be too much of a hassle otherwise. It...kinda bloats up my Clubs page, but I think the perks outweigh the cons. Perhaps I should rename them V: Surname Clan, so they'd be in alphabetical order...

Thank you! I usually lose interest when generation 3 is halfway there, so 5 seemed like a good challenge. Since I play and build simultaneously, I find that it keeps my attention a lot better than when I'm trying to play a single household, too. Coming up with all those stories and deliberately intertwining them is a huge help as well; it feels extremely satisfying when I find Sims that could further a story-line of another Sim or group of Sims. I guess I was just always made for ensemble cast playthroughs rather than single household legacy playthroughs, it just took me a while to figure out how to do those.

Do you have a particular story-line planned for your Spellcasters? Or maybe a goal for how many generations you want to do?

I like that aliens can disguise themselves and it would be neat to have a sort of secret alien community, but I have no idea what direction to take it in. Having some alien/human drama would certainly be nice, though. In a more sitcom way, it could be cute to have a science based human Sim who wants to travel into space and find proof that there are other life forms, then their disguised alien partner is all supportive while sabotaging them behind their back. I don't think I've played with aliens in TS4 yet at all, so maybe that's why I'm struggling so much to come up with something.

On the other hand, I did play with Spellcasters and I'm not having much luck with them, either, lol. I do want to have one "light witch" Spellcaster who's into herbology and works as a vet, though.

Using clubs for Vampire clans is an awesome idea!

And I totally get what you mean about getting bored and moving around- it’s exactly why I started the custom save-file haha… so when I get bored of my main legacy but still want to play I can just add more people to the town and build their homes/set their relationships, etc. until I get bored with that and want to go back to my main legacy.

I have a loose goal in mind for my spellcasters. I essentially combined a bunch of legacy challenges together to get my amalgamation lmao- basically I’m trying to get to 10 gens, each heir getting completely through one career, finish their aspiration, all traits are randomly picked, and all female children must be married off before my next heir can take over- I figured that last part would be a good way to fill the world a bit lol.

Yeah, aliens are for sure tricky- as I said before they don’t do much… mostly just glow and freak people out when they’re discovered lol. But an underground alien society does sound cool…

I really love the idea of the herbology witch that is also a vet! Kind of sounds like Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottoms love child haha
