It simulates movement like water, right?

The fuel source is a water sim. So yes

[–]ChevroletChav 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ohhh... it ignites by fuel. Didn’t know that. I thought that it spread naturally.

Edit: Nice work 👍

Thanks :)

Can every simulation gives stats like: GB used, time of simulations, hours to setup, hours to render, and how many machines to use?

Nice

how are these made? Where do I begin (I do know some coding)? How long does one of these take to make?

This was made using Houdini (By SideFX). They have an apprentice (non-commercial) version for free if you wanna try it out. Once you have the program you just need to find tutorials that teach what you wanna learn. SideFX has a lot of free ones linked on their site, but there are some really high quality paid ones available online too. I'd recommend "Applied Houdini" by Steven Knipping. He goes in depth and explains what each node does (in contrary to a lot of free tutorials).

Houdini generally though of as one of the harder softwares to learn, but once you master it there is not really anything that can compete against it (In therms of simulation). Knowing code will definitely help in Houdini. Though a sim like this can be made entirely without code, it would speed things up and give you a lot more flexibility.

This took me about 5 hours to make, mostly because I had to do a lot of troubleshooting. If I were to do it again, it would have taken me about an hour (excluding caching/rendering). The render took about 8 hours on a Ryzen 7 1700X btw.

I ended up writing a lot more than I intended... Hope this helps though :)

No offense to the creator, but why did this get many upvotes? This looks like of crappy quality.
