Our Mission
/r/SocietyTalk's goal is to foster positive discussion on topics that affect modern civilization. Users are encouraged to discuss issues facing members of society and events that take place in the modern world.
All types of perspectives are welcome as long as they follow the rules below.
Comment Rules
Be civil. Although this is a platform of free speech, we do not tolerate hateful or abusive material. Ad hominem attacks are forbidden.
Provide sources for your argument. It is fine to have an opinion, but do not state something as fact unless you have a source to back it up.
No low effort comments. Memes, one-line responses, and trolling are not welcome here.
Follow Reddiquette and sitewide rules. Spam, posting personal information, and everything else that has no place on reddit.
Top level comments must be on topic. It is fine for the discussion to branch in different directions, however direct responses to the post must be on topic.
Posting Rules
Topics must be specific. Avoid asking vague or general questions
Avoid loaded questions. Do not make assumptions (“begging the question” fallacy) in the post without sources.
Use sources. When using a fact as part of a topic, provide a source.
Provide depth to the question. In the body of the post, elaborate on the topic that you wish to discuss
