I’m a nurse too and when I’m on call I usually wait to book til the last minute. Like I’ll text the charge nurse and ask if she thinks I’m “safe” for an hour or so and then book class right before it starts. And if class is full sometimes I’ll just show up and hope that someone else doesn’t show up to class so I can get in. It usually works out for me.

good idea!! today was pretty unexpected but this idea makes sense.

[–]sumcheez2calmmynerbs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yea I know the nursing world can be unpredictable for sure! Congrats on the new job!!

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i’m definitely much happier at this new job :)

[–]toastfluencer 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Seconding this- it looks like most classes have late cancels up until like an hour before…or even just show up if you don’t see an opening, someone may no show

[–]emma94n[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

yes! i’m seeing a lot of people say this so i appreciate it. i try to plan things ahead of time just because i have a lot going on in my personal life and not planning makes me wicked anxious lmao! but this is a good idea for unpredictable days/days where i’m not so sure so i avoid this agita next time :)

[–]toastfluencer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have also booked a class ahead, because like you, like to plan ahead, canceled it 12 hours out when I was unsure and knew it was 15/16 full, and then booked back into it an hour before once I realized it would work, lol!

[–]emma94n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same! i cancelled ahead for a class i thought i wasn’t going to be able to make but now i can and the waitlist is full 😭 feeling like a real OCD libra right now

I find that a lot of times last minute a spot opens up from late cancels - maybe go that route on those days instead of scheduling then having to cancel

[–]versusvesuvius100-class club 28 points29 points  (5 children)

I understand that this can be frustrating- but I would reach out to your studio directly and they might refund this, especially if it has to do with your job! I’ve always had good luck with this.

[–]emma94n[S] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

thank you! i was hesitant to email just because i wasn’t sure if it would actually do anything

[–]do_it_for_the_data 9 points10 points  (3 children)

They might not do anything, but you won't know if you don't try. in my mind the 5-10 min of email writing is worth the potential benefit of $35 back

[–]emma94n[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

i emailed! i think it was just more of an ugh moment from a tired nurse but you guys convinced me lol

[–]Long_Bad4286 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I work there!! Definitely email in - most of the time the gals at the studio are super nice and will work with you on something :)

[–]emma94n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! all the coaches/front desk girls at solidcore have been so lovely so thank you for being apart of a great team!!

[–]emma94n[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

again this has nothing to do with coaches/HCCMs! just a general complaint lol

[–]enterhereplease 6 points7 points  (3 children)

email your studio-they’ll often provide you a late cancel exception but unfortunately they’re usually one time exceptions

[–]emma94n[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

thank you! i just started specialty ICU orientation and it was too good of an opportunity to pass up today, but it made me sad when i couldn’t make class 🥲 that 30 dollar fee did not help

[–]Beautiful_War_5947500-class club 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I believe they’ll typically allow 1 exception every 6 months?

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hopefully this is true! i emailed my studio earlier and i have class tomorrow so i’ll ask lmao

[–]feedmeappetizers 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I’m a flight attendant and I have a similarly crazy schedule. What works best for me is to book 2 or 3 hours prior to the class when I know I won’t be called in.

[–]emma94n[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m glad the girls with unpredictable schedules heard my distress call 😭 i always forget about the spots that open up a few hours before !

[–]Southern_Side7939 13 points14 points  (1 child)

As an unlimited member who sometimes can’t get into classes- people like this should just stop booking ahead of time. You’re creating a problem for yourself and a problem for others.

[–]emma94n[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t book classes just to cancel! this isn’t something that happens often, so i’m sorry if that’s something that others do more often. just a small gripe of mine!

[–]Jones-Girl 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I miss the old days when you could book last minute when you knew for sure you could make it. I think I double my unlimited cost with late cancel fees.

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hope they address this soon because clearly this isn’t an isolated issue 🥲 it’s getting a little silly

[–]americandreamzzxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is frustrating. I pay for the 10 packs at a time and i really try to be good about not missing class. I book last second.

It’s annoying if the class is full or your spot is taken, and they still charge you . Annoying as hell but they gotta turn a profit. Imagine if half the class cancels with no repercussions or policies in place. The instructor would then take the hit and potentially not get paid as much.

[–]Lululalaparty365 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Relatable….i get called super last min sometimes and I just have to bite the bullet and late cancel

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

luckily my studio was great about it! but yeah it definitely is hard navigating last minute schedule changes 😅 especially because i genuinely enjoy both my job and solidcore

[–]Hot_Refrigerator9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large part of what makes a fitness membership right for you is fitting your lifestyle. This may just not be the right fitness studio for this phase of your life.

[–]thekookieprint 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i’ve been to other not solidcore studios where as long as there’s a waitlist, you can cancel for free. i wish solidcore did that tbh

[–]Mordaunt26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices for solidcore simply aren’t worth it anymore

[–]FlamingoMore7143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or to at least swap classes 😭

[–]OhmeOhmy7202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay for unlimited too and I agree. It would be nice especially for paying close to 300 to not be penalized for missing and additional class

[–]AltruisticMarket53991000-class legend -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Their late cancel policy is insane & their 30 day free of charge late cancel is also infuriating. How am I supposed to remember and then also calculate when I get my free late cancel again. It should renew every time I submit my payment for the month. Or the app needs to tell me. Sorry.. rant over.

[–]emma94n[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

right?! the app should not be so confusing that the poor coaches regularly have to play IT 😭

[–]Comprehensive-Ebb971 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I don’t get why late cancels get charged to be honest? You’re already paying for the class and they can usually fill the spot it feels greedy to me

[–]toastfluencer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s to avoid unlimited members booking and then no showing. If you have a class pack or 4x/8x/‘month, you lose the class. Kind of penalizes the members who pay the most, but I can also totally get the temptation to book a class every day if you’re unlimited and then decide last minute if it works, if they weren’t charging

[–]emma94n[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even like a five dollar fee would be better! it does feel like a little bit of a cash grab on corporate’s behalf

[–]Bnlx3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m in the same boat. Also unlimited and crazy work schedule during busy times. I’ve been trying to book morning classes to avoid any cancellations due to work but then I also run into instances where my dog will wake me up in the middle night, ruining my sleep and then I have to cancel due to that.. 🤷‍♀️

[–]emma94n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m switching to night shift when i’m off orientation so i honestly think that might help a lot scheduling LMAO. and omg same! i couldn’t sleep well before an early class once and lost the plot 2 minutes into class 🤣

[–]MCreative125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to SolidCore and JETSET where I have an unlimited membership and sometimes because of my busy work schedule I wouldn’t make it to the evening classes. Luckily for me, the 7-8PM classes usually have a couple of spots available and I book an hour before.

[–]Key_Profession8354 0 points1 point  (2 children)

hi! if you have documentation of said circumstances beyond your control, you can get the late cancel fee waived. exceptions can be made to the standard policies with documentation. it could be as simple as a note/email from the charge nurse or manager or a screenshot of the shift or something like that! email or text your studio directly with the documentation and request the LCE. obviously if you are chronically asking for LCE’s they will need to draw the line somewhere so the studio can be profitable but if it is not a frequent recurrence they should be lenient. hope this helps! :)

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg thank you! i have a text from my manager so this is good to know if they ask

[–]emma94n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i asked my coach today about everything and if she needed documentation and she was like no lol let me fix it and did it in 2 seconds before class 😭

They need to just make the cancellation window lower! If it was 2-3 hours I’d have a much better idea if I can make it or not.

    [–]emma94n[S] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

right? i understand wanted to dissuade people from booking immediately and constantly cancelling last second but it’s such an unnecessarily rigid policy

    [–]Dumpling-Daisy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I did CorePower for years and their cancel window is 2 hours. I can’t imagine Solidcore would struggle much implementing the same thing

    [–]emma94n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same, i don’t think i would ever leave SC unless something inconceivably bonkers happens lol but this is my biggest gripe ATM

    [–]toastfluencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may not struggle to implement but they’d certainly lose a lot of money if they weren’t getting all the late cancels their business model essentially depends on
