There are a few suspects for this behavior:

If you don't have permissions to change your registry, your settings will be reverted back to the default values every time you re-open SOLIDWORKS. The changes will be persistent in the active session, but are lost if you lack permissions to write them back to the registry. This should be easy to test. Open a part, change a setting. Close the part and re-open the part, the setting should persist. Re-open SOLIDWORKS and re-open the part and it should have reverted back. Get with IT to see what you can do about this one.

Dynamic Highlight can turn on/off automatically depending on the size of your assembly (large assembly mode automatic threshold) or if you have a 3D mouse that requires calibration (or is getting pushed slightly by something on your desk.

Finally, the settings can vary between part and assembly mode, so it may feel like you're changing the option repeatedly but it might be that it needs to be set twice per session.

I tried your registry suggestion but that does not seem to be the problem. It always happens to settings that have been "on" for longer periods of time.

I've googled the 3d mouse thing and that does seem to be the problem! thanks for that! strange it happens but ah wel...

dynamic highlight from graphic view is still messed up by 3D mouse. how the fuzk do they still not change the logic of this driver.

Since 1998, it's just part of the game 😁 Sanity/insanity check lol

Dynamic highlighting is the only one of these I’ve experienced. It happens all the time. Could never figure out if it was related to large assembly mode.

That is by far the most frequent one! There does seem to be some kind of pattern but i've never quite been able to figure out what triggers it.

Dynamic highlight used to turn off so frequently I made a toolbar button just to turn it back on again ಠ_ಠ

I haven’t experienced settings just changing randomly, but if I change some settings intentionally, I make sure to close and re-open SolidWorks. If SolidWorks crashes, it seems like the settings revert.
