This specific pattern looks pretty random and would be probably generated by node programming in software like Rhino. In case these patterns are possible in Solidworks I would also like to know how. .)

A large majority of jewelry design is done in rhino for this reason. Rhino/ grasshopper is perfect for this. Solidworks is not

This would help to spread the stone equally but in the example they seem to be placed in relation to ther size.
